Moscow-Sana

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed today that his country has no plans to unilaterally freeze its stockpile of nuclear warheads.

"Washington announces huge programs to develop its nuclear capabilities," TASS quoted Ryabkov as saying, "and we cannot do a similar thing in such a case."

Adding: "The Americans have ignored that the extension of the" New START "treaty for nuclear disarmament depends on settlement and steps for a bilateral meeting in the middle of the road.

Ryabkov pointed out that the United States is not ready to extend the "New START" treaty, unlike the Russian side, denying the possibility of holding a meeting between envoys from both countries regarding "strategic stability."

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently proposed extending the current Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty for a year without any conditions.

Russia and the United States signed in April of 2010 in the Czech capital Prague the START 3 treaty to replace START 1, which ended in December 2009.
