Japanese Takaaki Nakagami (Honda-LCR) took pole position at the Teruel Grand Prix, his first in the MotoGP category, ahead of Frenchmen Johann Zarco (Ducati-Avintia) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha-SRT), 5th and 6th in qualifying Saturday.
Italian Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha-SRT) and Spaniard Alex Rins (Suzuki) will complete the 1st row on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., ahead of another Spaniard, Maverick Vinales (Yamaha), Zarco and Quartararo.
The Spaniard Joan Mir (Suzuki), leader of the championship ahead of Quartararo, has to be satisfied with 12th fastest time.
