During the epidemic, most people stayed at home to fight the epidemic. Many people like to eat snacks to relieve boredom, coupled with the effects of long wearing masks and the closure of various stadiums, as well as less exercise.

Sun Life Financial Co., Ltd. of Hong Kong recently released a survey on "Changes in Hong Kong People's Eating Habits During the Epidemic". 55% of the respondents said they gained weight during the epidemic, and nearly 70% of the respondents under the age of 25 had no exercise habits during the epidemic.

The frequency of taking takeaways and snacks increases during the epidemic, eating multiple meals a day and developing bad eating habits

Sun Life Hong Kong commissioned Life Easy to conduct a survey in Hong Kong in September 2020. Through an online questionnaire, 916 Hong Kong people between 20 and 55 years old were interviewed to learn about Hong Kong people's diet and exercise habits and their knowledge of diabetes during the anti-epidemic period.

It was found that more than 40% of the respondents said they eat more snacks, such as potato chips, biscuits, and ice cream.

In order to reduce going out, many people will order takeaways or cook at home. During the epidemic, three adults will order takeaways more often than before.

Although cooking and cooking can adjust the ingredients and quantity by itself, which is healthier than ordering takeout, it also has its health risks.

Three and a half of the interviewees said that in addition to regular meals, they cook more, such as baking cakes, making Chinese dim sum, etc., nearly three times a week.

Young and female respondents tend to rely on food to relieve boredom

Under the long-term fight against the epidemic, people cannot go out to relax as usual. Nearly 60% of the interviewees said that "staying at home is too distressing to fight the epidemic, and eating snacks can make them happy." The survey also pointed out that young respondents tend to rely on snacks to relieve boredom.

In addition to age, the eating habits of men and women are also different. More than half of the women said that food is used to relieve depression, and it is easier to buy more snacks while increasing the frequency of shopping in the market.

To maintain a strong body, while eating more snacks, you also need to do some exercise to burn the extra calories. However, the survey results show that the exercise habits of Hong Kong people are not ideal.

Hong Kong people's lack of exercise habits during the epidemic is proportional to age

During the epidemic, most people chose to stay at home, both psychologically and on the venue, which increased the resistance of citizens to exercise. The survey showed that 41% of the respondents had no exercise habits during the epidemic, and the younger respondents lacked exercise. The more serious, 67% of the respondents under the age of 25 have no exercise habit, while 26% of the respondents aged 50 or above have no exercise habit.

The World Health Organization points out that at least 150 minutes (2.5 hours) of moderate-intensity physical activity should be performed every week, such as fast walking, stairs, cycling on flat roads, etc., or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) of high-intensity physical activity. Such as jogging, skipping rope, and playing football.

The survey shows that less than 20% of respondents aged 45 or above exercise 150 minutes or more a week, while respondents under 45 years old have less than one adult who exercise 150 minutes or more a week.

In the case of unbalanced diet and lack of exercise, Hong Kong people tend to gain weight. Registered dietitian Liu Huiwen said there is a chance that this will increase the risk of diabetes.

In addition to potato chips, biscuits, and ice cream, other healthy snacks can also be substituted.
