An incident is underway on Sunday aboard an oil tanker in the south of England, according to local police, some British media evoking a possible attempt at piracy or the presence of illegals.
“
We are dealing with an ongoing incident aboard a ship which is south of the Isle of Wight,
” a Hampshire Police spokesperson said.
Local Isle of Wight Radio has spoken of a possible piracy attempt aboard the Nave Andromedia, a 228-meter tanker registered in Liberia.
Sky News reported the discovery of stowaways on board, claiming that the crew took refuge in parts of the ship.
The boat was due to dock in Southampton on Sunday morning, the channel said, adding that a five nautical mile zone has been set up around the ship, which is being flown over by a Coast Guard helicopter.
