Federal Justice and military authorities are investigating the
shortage of almost 30 thousand munitions
in the M6 Engineer Battalion, on the side of National Route 22, in Neuquén.
"They are raiding the Army's M6 Engineer Battalion in Neuquén because 30,000 FAL shots are missing. A scandal," Florencia Arietto, a criminal lawyer and former advisor to Patricia Bullrich in the Ministry of National Security, wrote this Saturday night.
The shortage is 28,000 ammunition of 7.62 caliber for the
Light Argentine Rifle (FAL)
and was detected this Friday.
In a statement, the Army assured that "a military justice action was initiated" due to the "alleged" lack of ammunition.
Likewise,
the Federal Justice was intervened
, with the aim of beginning "the process of clarifying the fact."
The prosecutor on duty and the Commander of the VI Mountain Brigade also participate in the investigation.
"After the measures taken, the Argentine Army is at the disposal of the judicial authorities in order to collaborate with a prompt resolution of what happened," the statement concludes.
According to the website La Nación, after the ammunition count, the authorities summoned the noncommissioned officer who was in charge of the area.
Questioned about the lack of military equipment, the man went into crisis and suffered a decompensation.
In addition, he noticed that his truck was full of explosives, ready to be detonated.
For this reason, the Explosives Brigade of the Federal Police acted in the place and managed to deactivate the material located in the vehicle.
Similar shortages occurred between late 2014 and early 2015.
In December 2014, the Federal Justice of Rosario began an investigation into the disappearance of some 26,000 9-millimeter projectiles in the Arsenals Battalion 603 of Fray Luis Beltrán, in Santa Fe. Two officers and five non-commissioned officers were suspended at that time.
A month later, the theft of a Tow 2 missile, capable of piercing armored vehicles, was detected.
It happened in the Armored Cavalry Squadron 1 of La Plata.
Although the Army described it as "sensitive material", on that occasion it stressed that they had not taken any launcher, necessary to use the missile.
