Boris Johnson claims that the Brexit talks are not dependent on the election in the USA

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is not making negotiations on a Brexit trade package dependent on the US presidential election.
"They are two different things," he said.
The "Observer" reported at the weekend that Johnson was delaying negotiations to await the outcome of the US election.
Accordingly, a possible no-deal Brexit would only be announced if Donald Trump became president again.
Trump is considered a Brexit supporter, and if he wins the election, Johnson would immediately conclude a trade deal between the United States and Great Britain, according to the report.
Trump's rival in the November 3rd election, Joe Biden, is more fond of the European Union.
Johnson is happy that both sides are back at the same table in the Brexit negotiations.
"We'll see what the talks bring," said the Prime Minister.
According to a British government spokesman, London and Brussels are now "in an intensive phase of negotiations" on a Brexit trade pact.
London returns to the negotiating table
So far, the talks had made little progress, and London even left the negotiating table in the meantime.
The parties resumed negotiations last week, with the British government justifying the decision with a speech by EU negotiator Michael Barnier.
Barnier recognized important points for Great Britain, including respect for the sovereignty of Great Britain, it said.
Barnier had previously offered London intensive negotiations in a speech in the European Parliament and said: "I think an agreement is within reach if we are both willing to work constructively and in a spirit of compromise."
And he added: "Our door will stay open until the last day, until the last day when it is still of any use".
The British voters had voted in 2016 with a narrow majority to leave the EU.
Great Britain then left the EU at the end of January 2020, but is still a member of the EU internal market and the customs union during a transition period until the end of the year.
Only then does the economic break come.
If no deal is reached, there is a risk of tariffs and other trade barriers that would put a heavy burden on trade.
