Has the mood of contempt and anger against the political class which had carried the candidacy of Donald Trump disappeared?
Nothing is less sure.
The enthusiasm aroused by the outgoing president among his supporters shows no sign of weakness.
Yet, one week before the election, the electoral situation strangely resembles that of four years ago.
The polls passed through the sieve of scholarly probability calculations once again tilt the forecasts heavily in favor of the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden.
This would have several possible access routes to the White House, while the path would remain narrow for Donald Trump.
As in 2016, where he overcame a deficit of 2.8 million votes by hitting an unlikely three-cushion billiard shot in Michigan (0.3% ahead), Wisconsin and Pennsylvania (0.7% each), to pocket the electoral college.
