"Hooray, a Biden shield!"
Rick Kennedy is happy like a kid on Halloween.
He applies the brakes, picks up a leaflet and jumps out of the car.
The house he sprints towards is decorated in autumn: a colorful wreath of leaves, a pumpkin made of tin - and an election poster in the dry grass.
Open statements for Joe Biden and the Democrats are rare here in Rockdale.
The small town in the heart of Texas is firmly in Republican hands, from justice of the peace to Congressman, an ex-oil tycoon who has been in the US House of Representatives since 2010.
Donald Trump won the constituency four years ago with 56 percent of the vote.
This could change now.

Democrats benefit from demographic change
This is mainly due to the fact that the composition of the population is changing rapidly and dramatically: the state is growing faster than any other in the entire country.
The proportion of white, Christian, republican voters, who were in the majority here for a long time, is decreasing - but the proportion of minorities is growing: blacks, Latinos and people of Asian origin are increasing.
And that helps the Democrats.
