It is a rare occurrence.
A municipal council, that of Angers, has just formally and unanimously opposed the sale, by the association that owns land on which a mosque is being built, to the Moroccan ministry in charge of Islam in the Kingdom of Morocco, the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.
During Monday's meeting, the city council voted unanimously on a deliberation proposed by the mayor, Christophe Béchu (ex-LR, DVD) against this sale.
The reason is the following: although
"attached to the free exercise of worship and respectful of the wish of the Muslim community to have a dignified place of worship allowing believers to practice their religion"
, it appears that
"the cession of the future mosque in a foreign country does not correspond to the desired neutrality for the realization and future operation of such equipment ”
.
Technically, the mayor relied on the non-compliance by the Association of Muslims of Angers (AMA), promoter of the project
