France has stepped up security around religious sites across the country due to "very high" danger of terrorist attacks - the Interior Minister said today (Tuesday) amid calls in the Muslim world to boycott French products due to illustrations by Muhammad, presented by teacher Samuel Patti killed this month in the suburbs Paris.

Paris is trying to calm the rage in Turkey and the Arab world following demonstrations against France and removing products from the shelves, following President Emanuel Macron's aggressive response to radical Islam after the attack two weeks ago.

France's allies in Europe have expressed support for Macron, who has defended the prophet's cartoons, which are considered sacrilegious in the eyes of Muslims.

In anticipation of the Halloween holiday this weekend, French police have stepped up security outside religious sites following cyber threats against Christians and moderate Muslims.

According to Interior Minister Gerald Dermanin, the terrorist threat is "very high because we have a lot of enemies inside and outside the country."

Dermanin reiterated the intention to try and dismantle Islamic groups that are perceived as having extremist and dangerous views or those with foreign funding in large sums.

He hung the accusations in Turkey and Pakistan, particularly in "interfering in France's internal affairs."

"There is a struggle against Islamist ideology, we must not back down," Macron said, but insisted that "the Muslim faith has the whole place in the republic."

Several members of the moderate Muslim community in France called for calm, and defended the freedom of expression that Patti demonstrated.

"There is a struggle against Islamist ideology. We must not back down."

Muhammad's illustrations presented by the teacher angered many Muslims around the world.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has led the charges against France, questioning President Macron's mental state.

In light of this, France even returned its ambassador to Turkey for a consultation in Paris, for the first time since the establishment of relations between the two countries.

Tensions between Ankara and Paris have intensified in recent months due to Turkish activity in Syria, Libya and the Caucasus region of Nagorno-Karabakh, and have spread to other countries in Europe and the Muslim world.

Demonstrations against France took place from Bangladesh to the Gaza Strip.

Shops in Kuwait have removed from the shelves yogurt and soda bottles made in France, the University of Qatar has canceled a French Culture Week and the Pakistani parliament has passed a resolution condemning the publication of the Prophet's illustrations.

EU officials warn that Turkey's position could further hurt relations with key trading partners and its efforts to join the union.

"A boycott will only further alienate Turkey from the European Union," European Commission spokesman Blaze O'Guaris said on Tuesday, insisting that Turkey respect the terms of its trade agreement with the European Union.
