Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu warned of the dangerous situation on the borders of Russia and Belarus with NATO countries, which calls for continuing efforts and considering the tasks of providing security as a priority for Moscow.

Sputnik quoted Shoigu as saying in a meeting of the Russian and Belarusian Ministries of Defense via video: “As in the past, there is still a turbulent situation on the western borders as NATO continues to strengthen its presence,” explaining that “in view of the current military and political situation in the region as well as the new challenges and threats. Especially from international terrorism, the Russian Ministry of Defense considers ensuring the military security of the Union (Russia and Belarus) among its priority tasks.

"NATO is working to improve its military infrastructure and store materials, technical means, weapons and military equipment near the borders of the Union, and the US missile defense sector is being strengthened," he said.

The Russian Minister of Defense added that despite the Corona pandemic sweeping the world, the intensity of NATO's military exercises has not decreased.

In his turn, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin indicated that the number of NATO maneuvers in the countries neighboring Belarus is increasing, as is the presence of the US military in the region.
