Billionaire Michael Bloomberg plans to invest about $ 15 million in election broadcasts in Texas and Ohio in the last week of the campaign to help Democratic candidate Joe Biden defeat President Donald Trump, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

Advertisements in both countries will run from tomorrow until Election Day, next Tuesday.

Bloomberg, a former New York mayor who failed in the Democratic primaries, has promised to invest about $ 100 million of his capital to support Biden in Florida through his action committee and other Democratic groups.

He decided to invest money in Texas and Ohio after his team examined internal surveys in several states.

"We believe Florida will be close to the end, and we were looking for more opportunities to expand the map," Howard Wolfston, Bloomberg's adviser, told the New York Times.

"For us, Texas and Ohio are the best opportunity for that."

A Bloomberg spokesman said he would also increase advertising for Biden in Florida, strengthening the campaign that began in mid-September with daily advertisements in ten state media.

The broadcasts in Texas, which will air in English and Spanish, will focus on the Republican president's treatment of the corona plague, and in Ohio the commercials will focus on the plague, the economy, and Biden's promise to "rebuild better."

Trump won in Texas and Ohio in 2016, and maintaining them is critical to his chances of winning a second term.

Polls in both countries indicate a close race in both countries, giving 38 and 18 electors respectively.

To win the American-style election, a candidate must win at least 270 electors.
