The attorney general leaves Stampa out of Anticorruption

2020-10-27T22:10:53.134Z

The person in charge of investigating Villarejo so far does not receive any support from the Fiscal Council to continue in his position

Ignacio Stampa, the prosecutor in charge of the investigation into the

Villarejo case

, has not received any vote in the Fiscal Council to occupy one of the fixed positions in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

Stampa, therefore, will leave said Prosecutor's Office, which will be removed from the investigation of the different pieces of the

Villarejo case

, in which he has been working together with the prosecutor Miguel Serrano in the last three years.

The State Attorney General, Dolores Delgado, has not proposed Stampa, who has not received the vote of any other member of the Fiscal Council.

Stampa is a member of the Association of Prosecutors (AF), which has not voted for him.

Neither has the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF).

Stampa was opting for one of the eight Anticorruption positions that were assigned this Tuesday, but, according to the sources consulted, the State Attorney General has decided not to grant him the position.

Stampa has been involved in recent months in an investigation for an alleged crime of secret disclosure after some conversations in a chat of the Podemos team of lawyers broke out.

Vox, Villarejo himself and a lawyer fired from Podemos, José Manuel Calvente, attribute to him an alleged relationship with a lawyer from Pablo Iglesias' party.

But all the complaints in this regard have been shelved, and there is no proof that their actions have benefited Podemos.

A few weeks ago, the lieutenant prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Luis Navajas, reproached in an interview the behavior of Stampa, of which he said he felt "disgust".

Weeks later, he retracted by letter in which he regretted his statements and apologized.

After the controversy, Navajas has abstained in the voting this Tuesday related to Anticorruption and the Supreme Court.

Also the chief prosecutor for Anticorruption, Alejandro Luzón, forcefully defended the work of Stampa and his partner during a statement at the Hearing of the

Din

a

case

: "The performance of the prosecutors is impeccable."

The sources consulted indicate that the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF) has given its four counselors freedom to vote to vote for the positions occupied by the two prosecutors in the

Villarejo case

.

But none of them have voted for Stampa, nor have the members of the Association of Prosecutors, to which Stampa belongs.

The decision of the Fiscal Council is not binding, but Delgado, after hearing the opinion of the directors, has chosen to leave this prosecutor out of Anti-Corruption, according to the sources consulted.

Both in the media of the Association of Prosecutors and the Progressive Union of Prosecutors it has been agreed that it was very difficult to explain Stampa's permanence in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office without having received any support in the Fiscal Council.

In the case of prosecutor Serrano, these sources explain that UPF has supported his continuity, as has the tax inspector, Fausto Cartagena.

The Association of Prosecutors has not done it, so, with Navajas' abstention, there has been a tie at five on Serrano's continuity.

After hearing the decision of both, Delgado has chosen to keep him.
