Thousands of federal police officers are to monitor compliance with the corona rules in large cities, areas with high numbers of infections and when entering Germany.
Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) decided that, his ministry tweeted.
The deployment of the police would be discussed with the federal states.
"The control of the new measures is crucial for the success of the new regulations", Seehofer was quoted as saying: "The situation is very serious."
With the so-called veil manhunt, compliance with the quarantine obligation for returnees from foreign risk areas is also to be checked.
"We will also control entry into Germany from risk areas at airports, train stations and also on the roads in the border area," Seehofer told the "Bild": "To this end, the veil search will be intensified at all German borders within a radius of 30 kilometers to be able to control compliance with the corona regulations even for those who enter by car from risk areas. "
Previously, the 16 country leaders had decided in the video conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) "suspicion-independent controls, especially in the border area".
"We will monitor more intensely, also by the federal police," said Merkel.
But there should be no border controls.
In the corona pandemic, the rule applies that returnees from risk countries must go to a two-week quarantine as long as they cannot present a negative test result.
From November 8th, all returnees from risk areas are subject to a mandatory quarantine of ten days.
It can be shortened if the person concerned can present a negative corona test "at the earliest from the fifth day after entry".
The federal and state governments agreed on extensive contact restrictions and the temporary closure of catering establishments and leisure facilities in November.
