Germany is facing the next (partial) lockdown.

The level of knowledge is different this time than in spring.

How is the efficiency of the corona measures?

  • Germany is

    entering the

    corona lockdown

    for the second time

    : Which

    measures

    are most useful?

  • Scottish scientists present an

    evaluation from 131 countries

    - with regard to the

    R-value

    .

  • Accordingly, a

    ban on public events has

    the greatest effect.

  • This does not apply to

other aids to contain the risk of infection with

    Sars-CoV-2 *

    .

Edinburgh / Berlin - In view of the high number of

corona infections

in autumn 2020, Germany is facing a new lockdown.

Compared to the spring of this year, however, the federal government is planning a weaker version ("Lockdown Light") with the aim of enabling the population to celebrate Christmas with the family despite the pandemic.

As an alternative, the political leadership apparently fears that, in the worst case, a

ban on contact

with friends and relatives will be necessary

around

the turn of the year

.

Therefore, nationwide measures to contain the

corona pandemic will be

announced

on Wednesday (October 28)

, which should apply for the entire November in the hope of

curbing

the infection process with

Sars-CoV-2

.

So what is the point of paralyzing public life as much as possible?

Corona lockdown: which measures are effective in containing the risk of infection?

The level of knowledge about the effectiveness of a lockdown can now be analyzed using empirical values.

A study by Scottish researchers published in the journal “Lancet” examined the

R values

of a total of 131 countries - and

evaluated

the corresponding corona measures with regard to their

success

.

Here eight aids were

examined

between

January and July 2020

that were used to come to terms with the pandemic.

In their evaluation, the scientists from the University of Edinburgh come to the conclusion that only two of the corona measures are predestined to

significantly reduce

the number of infections with

Sars-CoV-2

: the

ban on public events

.

According to the experts, the infections * could be avoided by up to 24 percent.

Only the

ban on gathering

more than ten people

is just

as noticeable.

The regulations regarding the

ban

on

alcohol

are certainly

important here.

Corona lockdown rules: The most important thing appears to be avoiding crowds

The findings make it clear that in order to contain the corona pandemic, restrictions

appear to be necessary

mainly with regard to

crowds

.

Two further measures follow, which have been shown to reduce the R-value * of people infected with corona: the

closure of schools

* (15 percent) and the

closure of workplaces and offices

(13 percent).

What was not explicitly taken into account by the experts from Edinburgh in their evaluation: sporting activity with like-minded people, which is to be banned for November as part of the new measures taken by the federal government.

An exit

restriction

allegedly had

little effect on the

infection rate

in the 131 countries examined.

The shutdown of public transport has also

only reduced

the

Corona-R value

in the affected countries in the lower single-digit range, judge the scientists from Great Britain.

Before the Corona summit in Berlin, top virologists expressed massive criticism of Merkel's lockdown plans.
