The United Nations Children's Fund "UNICEF" today warned that the humanitarian situation in Yemen is "catastrophic", especially for children, considering it to be one of the worst countries in which a child can be born.

The United Nations News Center quoted Kamal Al-Waziza, a media official at the UNICEF office in Yemen, as saying: “There are more than 12 million Yemeni children in need of humanitarian assistance, only half of the health facilities are working, and many children are out of school,” adding, “Children here are struggling to survive in Undernourishment, lack of safe water or adequate sanitation services.

The continuation of the Saudi regime's aggression and blockade of many Yemeni cities has led to the worst humanitarian catastrophe facing the Yemenis, in addition to tens of thousands of victims and the massive destruction caused by the aggression.

Al-Waziza pointed out that the problem of malnutrition in Yemen is a chronic problem, as it has long been ranked “the highest rates of malnutrition” in the world, and that food insecurity is a problem that a large segment of Yemenis suffers from, in addition to the deterioration of livelihoods of the most vulnerable in the country.

Al-Waziza pointed to the deficiency of the health system in Yemen, especially with regard to medicines and medical supplies, and the inability of many children to obtain important vaccines such as measles and polio, in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Yemen is the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, as nearly 80 percent of the population needs humanitarian assistance and protection. The latest UN reports recently showed that one in five children under the age of five in various parts of Yemen suffers from severe malnutrition.
