It is reported that Zhong Hanlin once asked for help from the "Friends of Hong Kong" organization of Hong Kong residents in Britain, and the organization responded to inquiries and confirmed that a total of 5 social activists planned to seek political asylum in the United States on that day. One of them held American nationality and was criticized by the organization. The U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau refused to lend a helping hand and acted as "shameful."
Zhong Hanlin was escorted to the West Kowloon Court in a police vehicle this morning. There is no need to reply for the time being. The case will be postponed until January 7 next year. He was refused bail and has to be remanded in custody.
"Friends of Hong Kong" refers to the fact that five social activists seeking political asylum recently sought help from the organization for fear of losing their personal freedom, hoping to seek political asylum through informal channels by the US authorities.
According to the organization, although it is known that it is very rare for the United States to accept applications for political asylum by Chinese pro-democracy activists, Zhong Hanlin is a well-known social activist. He also disbanded his organization "Student Movement Yuan" before the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" took effect. Still arrested in May.
According to the organization, the US Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau once asked one of the social activists to ask for help if necessary. One of the five people was a U.S.-born U.S. citizen, but the U.S. Consulate ultimately refused to help.
The organization praised Zhong Hanlin for setting up an organization to support the democratic development of Hong Kong during the middle school years, calling on the Hong Kong government and the international community to listen to the voices of such young people, and the organization will continue to voice and provide assistance to social activists.
