Reconfinement: Roselyne Bachelot closes theaters, museums, concert halls and cinemas

"It is a very difficult decision but essential to contain the virus", explained the minister, stressing that the restoration projects or the filming could continue.


By presenting the rules that will apply during the new confinement on Thursday evening, Prime Minister Jean Castex notably announced that artistic and sports education establishments, such as dance schools or conservatories, will remain closed.

Stressing that the cultural sector was very hard hit by the pandemic and the re-containment, he left it to Roselyne Bachelot to detail the measures which specifically concern the cultural milieu.

It was implicit since Wednesday evening and the speech of Emmanuel Macron but the minister notably confirmed that "

all cultural places which receive the public will be closed

".

However, certain professional activities may continue, as long as they are carried out without an audience.

The Minister cited, for example, the shooting of films and series, the capture of theatrical or musical works for broadcast on television, the preparation of exhibitions, heritage restoration projects.

The works at Notre-Dame or Mont Saint-Michel will therefore continue.

Filming will not be interrupted, such as the one underway in Paris at the moment of the

Colors of the Fire,

directed by Clovis Cornillac, with Léa Drucker, Alice Isaaz and Benoît Poelvoorde.

Roselyne Bachelot even cited as an example the production of Hippolyte et Aricie, Rameau's opera which was to be premiered at the Opéra-Comique in early November;

the production will be recorded and broadcast on the public service.

As in the spring, the newsagents will also remain open.

On the issue of bookstores and record stores, Roselyne Bachelot paved the way for the establishment of orders and deliveries in stores, a “

pick and collect

” system which had been tested at the time of the spring deconfinement.
