The United States surpassed 9 million cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the count of NBC News, the sister network of Noticias Telemundo.
The announcement comes a few hours after it was known that
in the last 24 hours a daily record number of infections of 80,622 cases was registered
.
It is the first time that the country worst hit by the pandemic in the world crossed the threshold of 80,000 cases since the start of the health crisis in March.
The 996 deaths from COVID-19 also reported on Wednesday brought the national death toll to about 230,000, the highest death toll in the world.
The country exceeds 9 million cases
with less than a week to the final day of the elections
and while the president, Donald Trump, continues to insist in his electoral campaign that the country is winning the battle against the virus.
