The former Houston coach will don the assistant costume of the one who was his player in Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Mike D'Antoni is about to find a new employer.

But not as a head coach.

From

ESPN's

Adrian Wojnarowski

, the former Houston coach will take over Brooklyn and officiate there as an assistant to the one who was his player in Phoenix and the Lakers, Steve Nash.

Ime Udoka will also join the staff of coach Nash, still according to “Woj”, who specifies that the two technicians are in the process of “finalizing” their contract with the Nets.

For his first season as head coach, Nash therefore made the choice to surround himself with experienced coaches.

We know that Jacque Vaughn and Amare Stoudemire will also be part of this five-star staff, intended to guide Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and company to the highest peaks of the NBA next season.

Until the title?

Mike D'Antoni and Ime Udoka are finalizing deals to become assistant coaches under Steve Nash with the Brooklyn Nets, sources tell ESPN.

Together, D'Antoni and Nash were the architects of the Seven Seconds or Less Offense with the Phoenix Suns in the mid-2000's.

Steve Nash played four years (2004-08) under Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix, winning two regular season MVP titles (2005, 2006), and two years with the Lakers (2012- 14).

Aged 69, and twice coach of the year (2005, 2017), the Italian-American technician has also managed Denver, New York and therefore Houston.

He has also been an assistant with the Nuggets, Suns and 76ers.

His record as a number 1 coach?

672 wins and 527 losses.

With the Rockets, over the past four years, he has a record of 217 wins for 101 losses.

Ime Udoka, 43, was Gregg Popovich's assistant for a long time on the San Antonio side (2012-2019), before taking over the management of Philadelphia, under Brett Brown, for a year.

He had been talked about for several head coaching positions this summer.
