They had been on trial since Tuesday for having been architects of "

media jihad

", translating and then broadcasting the terrorist group's press releases, videos and radio bulletins on Telegram messaging, within a hierarchical organization.

"

Propaganda is the inseparable link between ideology and the terrorist crime

", underlined the president of the court while rendering his decision.

"

The acts committed constitute an essential cog in the development of violent jihadist ideology and must be punished accordingly

."

In charge of the ISIS 'media center'

The court considered that Abdel Khalik K., now 34 years old, was indeed the one who, under the name of “

Abou Bara

”, had recruited and supervised a team of “

mounassirs

” disseminating the contents of the media center “

An-Nûr

”, propaganda organ of the EI group.

He stressed that the defendant had contacts with a certain "

Hamza

" then in the Iraqi-Syrian zone, likely to be Adrien Guihal, a veteran of the French jihad who notably lent his voice to the audio claim of the Nice attack in 2016.

This former inhabitant of the North was sentenced to nine years in prison but without a safety period, which opens up possibilities for faster reintegration - the court notably retaining its "

real path of introspection

" in prison.

The second defendant, 35, delivery driver in Dijon before his arrest, was sentenced to six years in prison, without a safety period.

The court underlined his “

lesser involvement

” but considered that he nevertheless had an “

active presence

” and carried out a certain “

control

” of the other translators.

In pre-trial detention since their arrest at the end of 2017 and mid-2018, these two men admitted a large part of the facts, saying "to

be ashamed

" and "to

regret

" these acts.

Abdel Khalik K., however, denied being "

Abu Bara

" and having been at the top of the hierarchy.
