Homs mills have begun to receive the olive harvest, with a low turnout so far, due to the late rainfall and the delay of most farmers harvesting their seasons.
The head of the fruitful trees department in the cultivation of chickpeas, Eng. Naji, said in a statement to SANA that the press price has been set at 55 Syrian pounds per kilo of olive fruits if the pyrene product is left to the owner of the mill, and 65 pounds if the farmer takes the pyren or 6 percent of the oil amount to the owner of the mill, indicating To the presence of 63 presses in service, 45 of them are expected to operate this season, and all measures have been taken to continue their work according to the specified conditions.
For her part, the engineer, Lama Qassis, head of the committee in charge of monitoring the work of the press, pointed out to the start of their tours to the presses since the seventh of this month, as the committee began its work in the western countryside as a result of starting harvesting early this year due to the fires, provided that the transfer to other areas will take place during the coming period.
She indicated that the committee is composed of representatives of agriculture, environment, industry, water resources and the Directorate of Internal Trade, each working according to its competence, which includes taking samples of pyrene and peat water, how to dispose of it, adherence to the specified price, in addition to reviewing the facility record and the readiness of the machines to work.
The area planted with olives this year reached 96,500 hectares, most of which were planted with rain, and the number of fruit trees amounted to 13.7 million trees, while initial production estimates reached 114,000 tons of fruits.
