The experimental phase of the corona vaccine is underway: the first participant - a 34-year-old doctoral student

The Biological Institute will begin clinical trials in humans as early as this coming Sunday at Hadassah Ein Kerem in Jerusalem.

The Institute for Biological Research in Israel will begin this Sunday the clinical trials of the corona virus vaccine at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.

According to the hospital, the first vaccine dose will be given to the first participant in the trial - a 34-year-old doctoral student from the south of the country - who was informed last night (Thursday) that he was found suitable.

The announcement was received by the first participant from the director of the Hadassah Clinical Research Unit, Prof. Yossi Karko, and the research coordinator, Hanna Drori.

They summarized the details with him, and in the clinical research unit at Hadassah, the final preparations for the vaccination were completed.

The vaccine doses were received by the unit pharmacist at Hadassah.

They were put in the freezer refrigerators until Sunday morning, then go out to prepare for the first injection.

"He volunteered to take part in a move that is considered to be the most significant in the global fight to address the corona crisis and a real breakthrough in finding the vaccine for the virus," the hospital said.

The Ministry of Health updated this morning that 5,018 people were diagnosed in Corona last week.

The figure is about 31% lower than the week before, when 7,283 people were diagnosed with the virus.

Also, 192 people died this week - a figure almost identical to last week's, and the total death toll from the virus stands at 2,511.

In the last day, 630 people have been diagnosed with corona carriers.

Out of 36,318 tests, the positive rate dropped to 1.8% - the lowest figure since June.

The test data and their results are not final and may change in subsequent updates from the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the number of respirators is 190 - a decrease of 33 people compared to the previous week, when the number was 223. Last week the number of respirators decreased by 24 people.

The declining trend in the number of patients in critical condition, which began last week, continues.

Compared to 570 such patients in the previous week, there are now 410 - a decrease of 160 patients.

For comparison, in the previous week the number of serious patients decreased by 143.

The number of active patients is 11,254, down from 6,025 from last week, when the figure stood at 17,279.

Also, 738 corona patients are hospitalized in the hospitals - a decrease of 258 from the previous week.
