A demonstration against the measures taken to contain the coronavirus, in the Plaza de Sant Jaume in Barcelona, has ended tonight with charges in the center of the city.

People from the catering sector, the world of aesthetics, gyms and nightlife, among others, had gathered at the concentration, affected by the closure decreed by the Generalitat.

The Mossos have so far detained at least 12 people, 2 of them minors, and the emergency medical system has assisted another seven and at least fifteen policemen have been injured, none seriously, according to police sources.

The march, without communicating and which has gathered several hundred people, began calmly at six in the afternoon until several people ended up launching various fences in the square against the Mossos d'Esquadra police line.

They have also thrown flares and other objects, according to people present at the demonstration.

Finally, the Catalan police charged the protesters, who have dispersed through the center of Barcelona.

The Mossos have used foam launchers, according to several witnesses.

The march has ended up dissolved, with some races through the city center, and the burning of furniture, according to police sources.

The altercations have lasted until after nine at night.

Some police sources attribute to radical groups of the extreme right the intention, from the beginning, to provoke incidents as has happened in some Italian cities to show the discomfort over the restrictions imposed by the Generalitat.

People attending the protest agree that from the beginning there were various groups that already threatened to cause incidents.

The altercations have exceeded forecasts, according to police sources.

"The investigation [of what happened tonight] points to a certain coordination or analogy to nearby countries, such as Italy," said the director of the Mossos, Pere Ferrer, in Rac1.

And he has referred to "very violent and organized minority groups" of the extreme right "infiltrated" in the protest against the restrictions.

Another protest last Sunday, in this case by deniers, also ended with incidents and the intervention of the Catalan police.

The Mossos then detained four people accused of attacking the authorities.

So, they tried to cut the Plaza de Espanya in Barcelona with vehicles and on foot.
