Moscow-Sana
Andrei Rodenko, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, announced that Washington's idea of deploying Scandinavian peacekeepers in the Nagorno Karabakh region needs to be discussed by Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russia Today quoted Rudenko as saying in a press statement today: "Ask the Americans where they took these proposals and ideas. All required criteria for possible mechanisms must be agreed upon in consultations with the parties to the conflict."
In response to a question about whether there are plans to hold consultations between Moscow and Yerevan on Russia's provision of military aid to Armenia, Rudenko declared that the two parties to the conflict in Karabakh must agree to deploy a Scandinavian peace-keeping force in the region, adding: “We are working with the Scandinavian governments to establish a peacekeeping force. They can be deployed in the area to ensure a ceasefire there.
Moscow has called more than once on the two parties to the conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh region to immediately cease fire and de-escalate tension.
Last Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced Russia's adherence to its obligations as an ally of Armenia, including those stipulated in the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between them for the year 1997, which requires a number of articles to take specific measures in the event of the emergence of a threat of armed attack or an act of aggression against the territories of the other party.
