The city of Puchheim wants to create almost 200 new bicycle parking spaces on the south side of the station.

Puchheim

- The responsible technical committee of the city council has now approved a concept according to which a large part (128) of the new parking space is to be built on a previously small green area west of the station building.

There you can park on two floors.

A further 48 should be placed next to the existing stands on Fröbelweg.

The narrow lawn between Fröbelweg and Friedhofshecke is reserved for up to ten cargo bikes - the only one of the three areas that belongs to the city itself.

Since the replacement of the old, narrow stands by new systems, which was recommended by the ADFC bicycle club, cyclists can park and maneuver more comfortably.

However, the total offer on the south side shrank to just under 290 places, 120 too few, as the MVV found in a demand assessment in 2016.

Negotiations with the railway

The negotiations with the railway, the reason for which one needs, turned out to be difficult as always.

At first it was said no, then maybe when the city had concrete plans.

After an official Puchheim “expression of interest” and a virtual on-site visit, the railway finally announced the prospect of a draft “license agreement” last July.

It is still a long time coming, but the Committee for Urban Buildings has been nailing it.

It was undisputed that they did not want to fall back on the standard "Orion 5R Compact" model of the railway for the double-decker system, but instead wanted to search for a higher quality provider through a tender - lower lifting height, no risk of dripping from wet wheels from above, easier operation.

Three cars - 48 bike spaces

On the other hand, the expansion of the existing parking space on Fröbelweg was controversial.

Because there would be no three car parking spaces.

The Puchheim train station is also used by commuters from the surrounding communities, the park-search traffic will increase significantly, said Thorsten Heil (CSU): "We need every parking space."

On the contrary, Puchheim lives from the fact that the S-Bahn can be reached by bike, contradicted Stefan Krebs of the Greens.

And instead of three cars, there is space for 48 bicycles.

Josef Ehrensberger (SPD) referred to the future underground car park in the planned city center, which could then provide relief.

“Who knows whether a car will still be driven by then,” joked party friend and mayor Norbert Seidl.

The parking lot location was recorded against the votes of the CSU.

The costs including roofing and lighting amount to around 400,000 euros.

In the meantime, however, there are high government grants that can reach 70 or ideally 90 percent of the eligible costs.

Any kind of barrier-free expansion of the station will not be hindered by the new parking facilities.
