Luxembourg - A neighboring country of Germany struggled with particularly high numbers on Wednesday.

The small state of Luxembourg has just under 620,000 inhabitants, but the number of corona cases exceeds the value in many German metropolises.

The number of new corona infections has risen sharply, especially in the past week.

Compared to the previous week, it grew by 39 percent to 4701 cases, as the Ministry of Health announced in Luxembourg on Wednesday.

The so-called incidence rate, i.e. the number of new infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, rose to 750.

In addition, the average age of the newly infected has also increased from 40.3 to 41.2 years.

In just one week, the number of active infections rose from 4683 to 8224 cases.

171 people have died in connection with Covid-19 in Luxembourg so far.

225 people are in clinics, 30 of them in intensive care units.

The new corona wave has been spilling over the second smallest country in the EU with a good 600,000 inhabitants for several weeks.

In the German traffic light procedure, an incidence value of more than 100 is considered dark red.

The value of the small country clearly exceeds that again.

The last seven-day incidence in Germany was just under 126

Since last Friday there has been a night curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. in Luxembourg and an increased mask requirement - always where more than four people meet.
