The European Union has criticized the Turkish regime's decision to continue its provocative activities in the eastern Mediterranean, considering that they affect the Greek and Cypriot maritime areas.
The Italian news agency AKI quoted Peter Stano, spokesman for the European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, as saying in a statement that Turkey continues to pursue a path that creates more tension and distrust in the region.
Especially in light of the multi-level attempts to make room for dialogue.
Borrell added that refraining from unilateral measures is a crucial element to reach a stable and secure environment in the eastern Mediterranean and to develop interest-based relations between the European Union and Turkey.
The European Union has repeatedly stressed the need for an immediate cessation of any illegal exploration and drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, to refrain from violating the Greek airspace and the territorial waters of Greece and Cyprus, to stop adopting rhetoric inciting war, resolve differences and discuss them at the negotiating table, and the need for Turkey to initiate a dialogue in good faith. .
