Roll backwards in Schleissheim: Now the community wants to buy air filter systems for schools and daycare centers.

These should perhaps be set up in November.

Oberschleißheim - Schools and daycare centers in Oberschleißheim want to protect the community from Corona as effectively as possible.

The town hall is currently examining the need for air filters.

Mayor Markus Böck (CSU) does not rule out purchasing devices for at least the most necessary supplies before the municipal council meeting on November 24th.

Almost two weeks ago things looked very different.

At that time, the local council decided against fully equipping schools and day-care centers with air purification devices for around 200,000 euros.

According to the rules of procedure, however, the mayor may initiate purchases that do not cost more than 30,000 euros without the consent of the municipal council.

So also air filters.

For this, the evaluation decided by the parliamentary groups would first have to clarify the need for schools and day-care centers.

Visit to the manufacturer

After the Oberschleißheim SPD paid a visit to a supplier of air filters at the end of October, the town hall also came to the company in Unterschleißheim these days.

As Mayor Böck informed the Münchner Merkur, the administration was keen to gain insight into the matter.

“It's about the technical requirements,” said Böck: The devices should not just be powerful enough.

Apparently the town hall has already contacted schools about this.

It turned out that air filters are often too loud for class.

The managing director of the company from Unterschleissheim recommends using sufficiently powerful systems, which with 41 decibels are definitely compatible with teaching.

Due to the escalating infection situation, parts of the parliamentary groups suddenly turned around in the October meeting.

Instead of just getting an order to test air filters in schools and daycare centers, parts of the municipal council aimed to equip both schools, kindergartens and after-school care centers with air purification systems.

However, Mayor Markus Böck did not see himself in a position to raise the calculated 200,000 euros;

certainly not without a supplementary budget.

"200,000 euros, that's a huge amount."

Second Mayor Harald Müller (SPD) expressed understanding for Böck's position.

It is the right decision to first try out the need.

"To date, we have not had any reliable findings about the effect of air filters in our schools and day-care centers," said Müller: "200,000 euros, that's a huge amount."

Whether Mayor Böck will act before the November meeting of the municipal council depends on the outcome of the test run at schools and daycare centers.

30,000 euros are enough - depending on the performance - for eight to ten devices.
