President Alberto Fernández revealed this Friday details of the extensive conversation he had with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which not only issues on the bilateral agenda were addressed but also progress was made with the efforts for Argentina to receive the
vaccine against the coronavirus that that country makes
.
When presenting the extension of the quarantine, the Head of State referred to the contacts he had earlier with Putin, but took the opportunity to clarify that the Russian medication, called Sputnik V,
will not be the only one to be bought.
"This morning I had an extensive telephone talk with Vladimir Putin. We talked about everything that may interest a president of Russia and Argentina when it comes to seeing how our countries can better be linked. But we spent a very long time talking of the Sputnik V vaccine and the truth that there
we have managed to advance and take important steps
, "he stressed.
President Fernández explained that he is working with the Sovereign Fund of Russia to define an agreement "
between the State and the State"
to access the medication, which still has to pass the last stage of scientific tests to enable its massive use.
"We are working and practically online with the phase 3 studies being carried out in Russia, with the idea that the ANMAT, when the time comes, will quickly have the necessary information to approve the vaccine, if it is in a position to be approved. ", indicated the Head of State.
During an act that he led at the Olivos residence, escorted by the Minister of Health Ginés González García and by the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, the President said that the Sputnik V vaccine could be applied in Argentina as of late from December.
"We have received the possibility of having
10 million vaccines, or 20 million doses
. It is a vaccine that is given a first dose and, 21 days, a second. We could cover 10 million people, if all goes well, from the end of December, "he said.
In this regard, Fernández remarked that the coronavirus vaccination operation will require a "huge effort" because the task "requires all logistics" to "reach every corner of Argentina."
"Is this the only vaccine that we are going to receive? The answer is no. We have signed agreements with other laboratories: we could receive
750,000 vaccines from Pfizer
, which in
December
could be in Argentina; we could, as of
March
, count with the
AstraZeneca and Oxford
vaccine
,
and we have also made an agreement for one of the
Chinese vaccines
, "he reviewed.
Finally, President Fernández remarked that the objective is for Argentines to count "as quickly as possible and in sufficient quantity with the vaccine" and that this "allow us to end this time of pandemic and allow us all to recover the life that it was altered. "
