More than 300,000 deaths due to the new coronavirus have been recorded in Europe, according to an assessment carried out by AFP from data provided by the health authorities on Friday at 7 p.m.

Europe is the second area in the world worst hit by the pandemic with 300,688 deaths in total (for 12,136,981 infections), behind Latin America and the Caribbean (408,841 deaths, 11,490,126 cases).
More than 22,000 deaths have been recorded there in the last seven days (22,468), the heaviest toll over a week in the region since the end of April. In total, nearly two-thirds of the region's deaths have been reported in the United Kingdom (48,475 deaths, 1,146,484 infections), in Italy (40,638 deaths, 862,681 cases), in France (39,865 deaths, 1,661,853 contaminations) , in Spain (38,833 deaths, 1,328,832 infections) and in Russia (29,887 deaths, 1,733,440 cases).
