Santos: In
2020, with all its stress factors, especially the corona crisis, of course, I was also anxious, frustrated and insecure more often than usual.
But I'm lucky enough to have access to science-based strategies to help me feel better.
SPIEGEL
: So did you change your behavior during the pandemic with regard to your emotional balance?
Santos
: Absolutely.
I pay even more attention to getting enough sleep and exercise and I take more care of my social contacts because they don't come naturally in these times.
SPIEGEL:
You also teach other people your tricks.
How many have registered for your "Happiness Classroom" online?
Santos:
Between March 2018, when the course was first offered, and March 2020, there were around 500,000 participants.
More than 2.5 million have been added since the beginning of the pandemic.
The reason is arguably that people are looking for scientifically based means that they can use to maintain their mental health.
We all know how we can protect ourselves against the virus: by wearing masks, keeping our distance, washing hands.
But many people need guidance on how to protect their psyche too.
