The US Department of the Treasury announced on November 9th US time sanctions against Li Guihua, Senior Superintendent of the National Security Service of the Hong Kong Police Force, Liu Cihui, Deputy Director of the Police Force, Li Jiangzhou, Deputy Director of the National Security Agency, and Deng Zhonghua, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council.

Soon after, US Secretary of State Pompeo tweeted on Twitter, which appeared to point out the reasons for the sanctions.

The list of four people announced by the U.S. Department of the Treasury includes: Senior Superintendent Li Guihua of the National Security Service of the Hong Kong Police Force; Liu Cihui, Deputy Director of the Police Force; Li Jiangzhou, Deputy Director of the National Security Agency; and Deng Zhonghua, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council.

A Bloomberg reporter tweeted beforehand that she and another reporter from the same company had received news that the Trump administration would impose economic sanctions on four more people in response to China’s suppression of dissent in Hong Kong.
