(CNN Spanish) -

El Salvador sent humanitarian aid to Guatemala and Honduras on Monday to help those affected by the passage of cyclone Eta.

There are 270 members of different relief institutions, the police and the army who will collaborate "as long as necessary" in coordination, logistics, search, fast-water search and rescue, assured Mario Durán, president of the National Commission for Civil Protection and Minister of the Interior.

The humanitarian mission is also made up of health personnel and mobile units that will attend to the affected people, Francisco Alabí, El Salvador's Minister of Health, said at a press conference.

The members of the humanitarian contingent underwent PCR tests to rule out that they are carriers of covid-19, according to the Salvadoran authorities.

The government of El Salvador also sent 30,000 food packages to Guatemala and Honduras for each country.

The objective is for them to be distributed among the families affected by the Eta crossing.

The convoy departed Sunday night.

In a tweet, President Nayib Bukele thanked his Guatemalan counterpart for "accepting the aid, streamlining procedures, and removing bureaucracy."

The authorities also explained that they send machinery to remove debris.

"Dump trucks, power shovels and some loaders," assured Carolina Recinos, presidential commissioner for cabinet affairs.

Until Monday morning, El Salvador maintained the red alert due to the possibility of rain, according to the forecast, which could generate landslides like the one that occurred in Nejapa on October 30 in which nine people died and one is still missing.
