Drivers currently have to reckon with disabilities in the Teufelsgraben: The road maintenance service is cutting the edge of the road - a measure that was overdue.

Holzkirchen / Otterfing -

Let there be light in the Teufelsgraben: The Hausham road maintenance depot is currently having the wood north of State Road 2573 cut back.

"That was long overdue," says Horst Müller, head of the road maintenance department.

Drivers have to reckon with disabilities for a few more days between Holzkirchen and Otterfing.

One side of the street is closed so that the work does not endanger anyone.

Traffic lights regulate the traffic.

Müller hopes that “we will finish there this week”.

At around 250 meters, between the entrance to the small settlement “Teufelsgraben” and the valley basin, a specialist company clears the entire strip of land between the state road and the striking edge of the Teufelsgraben.

Since the new Federal Nature Conservation Act came into force ten years ago, such tree felling work can only take place between the beginning of October and the end of February.

Vegetation in the Teufelsgraben was getting too close to the road

Trees and bushes have become too tall and dense in recent years, says Müller.

The vegetation moved so close to the street space that the risk of dead wood falling off the road increased.

It was also necessary to cut the clearance profile for the high superstructures of trucks.

In addition, the stock suffered from the death of ash shoots.

According to Müller, some trees were so damaged that they threatened to fall onto the state road, especially under snow pressure.

"It was time to intervene."

Remaining work still needs to be done at the large clearing point towards the valley basin.

Over the next few days, the workers will then take care of the wood that grows a few hundred meters further towards the entrance to Holzkirchen next to the road.

In the meantime, the road maintenance department was also busy on a section north of Otterfing, where the state road leads towards the district border.

There, the Wolfratshausen forest owners' association had indicated that trees near the road should be removed from private stocks.

“We work hand in hand,” says Müller.

Clippings are marketed as wood chips by the Hausham road maintenance facility

The clippings go to a chopper on site.

The old salt hall of the road maintenance department on the Holzkirchen "Spider" not far from the confluence of the B 13 and the B 318 serves as an interim storage facility. Müller estimates that around 200 cubic meters come together.

The "harvest" is sold as wood chips.

According to Müller, the clearing work in Teufelsgraben is not related to the serious accident in the same place when a 56-year-old car driver was killed in a head-on collision with a truck on October 22nd: "The work was planned well in advance."
