The activities of the Abu Tammam Poetry Festival, in its seventh edition, were launched today in the hall of the Arab Cultural Center in the city of Daraa, to celebrate this well-known poet and who had a prominent place among the poets of his time.

A group of Syrian poets from different governorates participated in the activities of the first day and recited poems that varied between spinning, pride and conscience, and some poems were not free of relying on the distinctive poetic heritage of Abu Tammam.

The poet Abu Tamam is Habib bin Aws al-Ta'i, who was born in the city of Jassim, from which the festival was launched, which bore his name, and he is one of the most prominent poets of the Abbasid era. He left behind about 513 different poems and died in 231 AH in the Iraqi city of Mosul and was buried there.

It is noteworthy that the festival will continue until Thursday the 12th of this month, when its activities will be held in the cities of Al-Sanamayn and Izraa, respectively.
