Japanese climate scientists have discovered evidence of a river flowing beneath the Greenland icebergs while probing the ice shield in the northwest of the peninsula.
"We need additional measurements using radar to confirm the results of our research ... and if it is confirmed that there is a river flowing under the ice shield of Greenland, this will radically change our perceptions about the components of the shield." Glacier Greenland and its subsequent developments against the backdrop of a changing climate ”.
The satellites recorded that the ice shield in Greenland is melting faster than previously expected, which led to the splitting of a large part weighing 12.5 million tons from it last August.
Japanese scientists expected that the length of a river flowing under the ice shield of Greenland would be approximately a thousand kilometers and that it would flow into the Arctic Ocean.
