In addition to reinforced security measures in the prison where he was detained, "
the prison authority has put in place a national action plan, which provides, among other things, for inspections throughout the country and the recruitment of several security specialists
", which must come to strengthen the closed establishments of the country, announces the ministry in this report.
Six-minute escape
On October 20, Peter Madsen, sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2017 murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall in a submarine of his own making, manages to escape from the high security prison of Herstedvester in the suburbs of Copenhagen after threatening a psychologist by making her believe he was wearing an explosive belt.
In fact, his escape lasted only six minutes before he was surrounded by the police, but this mini run proves that the security was unsatisfactory, concluded the Ministry of Justice.
In particular, insufficient attention has been paid to "
the detainee's will and capacity to plan and commit serious and dangerous assaults for the purpose of escape
", according to the ministry.
Since then, security has been reinforced in several prison buildings and video surveillance must be increased.
The "
detainee had the opportunity to find himself unattended in a separate workshop and was able to transport fictitious objects without being accompanied by the staff,
" noted Minister Nick Haekkerup.
The prison administration's report on the progress of the escape reveals that Madsen, 49, could in particular walk with a backpack in the prison without this not calling the guards.
Prisoners must now carry their personal effects in transparent bags.
Madsen has since been held at another facility whose location has not been disclosed, along with five other prisoners.
