The Minister of Defense, Bnei Gantz, decided today (Monday) to appoint General Herzli Halevi as Deputy Chief of General Staff, on the recommendation of the Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi.
Gantz said in his decision to appoint Major General Herzli Halevi as Deputy Chief of Staff, on the recommendation of Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi: "I am confident that he will be an excellent Deputy Chief of Staff, who will assist the Chief of Staff and all IDF commanders in leading the army in the face of changing challenges, in all operational arenas and in the required force building processes."
Defense Minister Gantz thanked Maj. Gen. Joel Strick, who was a leading candidate for the post, saying: It is certain that he will continue to contribute to the IDF and the State of Israel.
Herzli Halevi previously served as commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, head of the Operations Division in the Intelligence Division, Commander of the "Galilee" formation, Head of the Intelligence Division and General of the Southern Command.
Halevi holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy and business administration from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a master's degree in national resource management in the United States.
He is married and the father of four children.
