Eitan Steva, who was announced today (Monday) as the second Israeli astronaut in history to fly into space, was awarded the "Abortion Champion" medal in the First Lebanon War, when on the seventh day of the war, on June 11, 1982, he managed to shoot down four enemy planes. One, thus apparently becoming the only F-16 pilot ever to do so.

Eitan Steve is considered a legend in the Air Force, one who never feared to fight and even won the "Abortion Champion" medal.

Now he sets out to conquer a new and coveted goal - space.

Steva will be the second Israeli astronaut in space, with only one person ahead of him - his best friend from their time together in Squadron 117, the late pilot Ilan Ramon.

Unlike Marmon, who flew as a crew member on NASA's Columbia space shuttle, Steve is a wealthy businessman who will invest millions of dollars out of pocket and become one of the pioneers of the private space industry in the world. Steve was born in Haifa, raised in the United States until age 7, and later returned to Israel and settled in Ramat Gan. His parents immigrated from the Netherlands in 1953, his father was a soil and water researcher at the Volcanic Institute in Rehovot, and his mother works as a social worker at a mental health clinic.

He later served as a 16-F pilot in the 117th Squadron. In 1984 he was discharged from regular service and until 2012 he served in the reserve in the 117th Squadron

.

For 43 years of flying in the Air Force, he completed thousands of flight hours, won the Outstanding Reservist Award from the Air Force and received the Masterpiece Medal in Flight.
