Geretsried: A Christmas tree comes flying

Premiere for the newly designed Karl-Lederer-Platz: After the forced break due to the construction site, there is now a Christmas tree again in front of the town hall.

Decorated with 400 lights, it will get the Geretsrieder in the mood for Christmas in the Advent season.

  • To get in the mood for Advent, the city is putting up large, illuminated Christmas trees

  • The spruce and the two fir trees were donated by Geretsrieder Bürger

  • The Christmas trees are on Karl-Lederer-Platz, Neuer Platz and the village square in Gelting

Geretsried

- Early Tuesday morning, the nine-meter-high spruce is still in a garden on Meisenweg.

Anni Hahn made them available to the city.

The tree is conveniently positioned on the edge of the property and is easily accessible.

Construction yard boss Helmut Hodolitsch has already inspected the conifer and takes another look over the garden fence.

“Everything fits,” says Geretsrieder.

Special company lends a hand

The truck, complete with loading crane and trailer from Lantenhammer, is already in position.

The company in Gelting carries out special transports weighing tons worldwide.

In comparison, the Christmas tree is downright lightweight.

Claus Bader uses remote control to direct the crane's boom in the right direction.

“If the tree comes down, we'll take the next one,” jokes the expert.

There are still a few large conifers in the neighboring gardens.

But it won't come to that.

Meanwhile, Florian Dillmann from the building yard is working on the spruce.

With a large hatchet, he removes annoying branches in the lower area.

One of his colleagues can be raised up using a vehicle with an aerial work platform.

He has to fix a strap to the trunk and almost disappears between the branches.

Bader can now lower the crane with the chain and hook so that the belt can be attached.

For building yard boss Hodolitsch, it is the last Christmas tree

Helmut Hodolitsch has an eye on the procedure.

He has been working for the city administration for 40 years and has already taken part in many Christmas tree transports.

This will be his last - the building yard boss wants to retire next year.

“The least thing that breaks is when you hook the strap correctly into the hook and then pull the tree up evenly so that it hangs straight,” he reveals.

Breaking branches are his greatest concern.

“It would be worse if we already had sub-zero temperatures and everything was frozen.

But thank God we've never had that before. "

Now the tree is fixed to the crane.

Construction yard employee Peter Schelle starts the chainsaw and makes a few cuts on the trunk.

The spruce loses its balance and leans on its right side.

The crane catches her and she hovers over the garden fence onto the Starleiten.

The tree gently lands on the ground.

A faint crack can be heard.

But the tree seems to have survived the transport well.

So that the lower branches are not damaged by the weight of the tree, supports are placed under the trunk.

Then a second belt is wrapped around the same.

A second hook is attached to it.

The spruce then floats vertically over parked cars towards the trailer, where it is gently unloaded again.

“He has to go down another 40 centimeters,” an echo in the direction of the crane operator.

He nods, and then the tree rests safely on the transporter.

The spruce is fixed with tension belts so that the approximately 650 meter long way to Karl-Lederer-Platz can also be safely covered.

“Take care of the branches,” warns Hodolitsch.

“They still have to go up.” Then the entourage starts moving.

Lucky you: only a few small branches remain.

Everything was already prepared on Karl-Lederer-Platz when the Lantenhammer truck arrives.

Some visitors to the weekly market cast curious glances at the van and its valuable cargo.

The head of the building yard also takes a critical look at the cargo.

He sighs.

A branch has snapped off.

“Well, it'll work fine,” says Hodolich pragmatically.

Once you had to drill a hole and put a broken branch back in.

But that won't be necessary.

Sits, fits and doesn't wobble

Then it's off: the spruce hovers over the ground one last time and glides like magic into the new, massive stand not far from the town hall.

“Nothing needs to be carved,” says the head of the building yard happily.

His team pushes a little and tightens the screws.

Hodolitsch is not yet completely satisfied.

“One more Dutterl,” he says to his employees at the bracket.

They put in a wedge.

After all, the tree should rise straight into the sky from all sides.

“I like it,” says Hodolitsch, “it looks very nice.” Now it is the turn of the building yard electrician Günter Kachel.

30 fairy lights will be put up on Tuesday and Wednesday to make the Christmas tree shine.

The Neue Platz will also get a Christmas tree on this day: an approximately eight meter high fir tree that Alexandra Lang from Steiner Ring provided.

And the people of Gelting can also look forward to a Christmas tree.

Gunter Schiebel from the Achenseeweg donated a six meter high fir tree.

It will light up the village square.
