. Achmatova is one of the highest voices in the poetry of the twentieth century and of her century she went through all the horrors. She faced the world war and the revolution, the shooting of her husband and the arrest of her son, the Stalinist terror and the Nazi invasion. And he wrote verses not to escape reality but to describe it knowing that his destiny was to be the voice of a people and an era.
