Moscow-Sana

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned against obstructing the implementation of the tripartite agreement between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on the Nagorno Karabakh region.

Sputnik news agency quoted Putin as saying during a meeting on the Russian peacekeeping mission in Karabakh today that those trying to obstruct the implementation of the tripartite agreement between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on Karabakh should understand that the alternative to this agreement is war, pointing out that the settlement issue in Karabakh is important to Russia. Including from the point of view of ensuring internal security.

Putin emphasized that the work of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh was "clear."

Earlier today, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev confirmed the commitment of his country and Armenia to the ceasefire agreement in the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region, noting Russia's efforts to achieve stability and maintain peace in the region.

On the ninth of November, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire agreement in Nagorny Karabakh that stipulated a ceasefire between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces within their current locations and the deployment of Russian peacekeepers along the line of contact, lifting restrictions on transport, transit and prisoner exchange. Between the two parties to the conflict and the return of the displaced to Karabakh, under the auspices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
