Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu announced the completion of the deployment of the Russian peace-keeping force in the Karabakh region, where it began to perform its duties in accordance with the recent tripartite agreement between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"The Russian peacekeeping force has finished deploying on the lands of Karabakh and has started performing the tasks assigned to it," RIA Novosti news agency quoted Shoigu as saying.

Shoigu pointed out that 1960 peacekeepers and 552 vehicles, including armored vehicles, were transferred, and 23 observation points were deployed, in addition to clearing the Lachin corridor connecting Armenia with Karabakh and the road leading to the city of Stepanakert of explosives and destroyed military vehicles.

Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a ceasefire agreement in Nagorny Karabakh, under the auspices of Russia, which entered into force on November 10.
