At 4:37 pm today (23rd), a 35-year-old male diver surnamed Chen was performing a welding work on the sea bottom at Container Terminal No. 1 Kwai Tai Road, Tsing Yi, but did not return to the surface within the scheduled time. My colleagues were worried. An accident happened, so he called the police for help.
The diver was rescued by a colleague, unconscious, and rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital by an ambulance.
The case is classified as an industrial accident.
The deceased’s wife and son were shocked to learn of the bad news and rushed to the hospital to learn about the incident.
It is understood that the victim and two colleagues have been conducting seabed welding projects off the site from 9 am this morning.
At about 2 in the afternoon, after they had lunch, the victim went to work on the barge.
At the time of the incident, the colleague who was in charge of monitoring on the barge pulled the rope of the victim several times to indicate that it was the scheduled time to land, but the victim did not respond and did not return to the surface for a long time. Another colleague of divers searched and found it underwater The victim.
At that time, the victim was drowning and unconscious. He was rescued ashore and sent to hospital, but he was certified dead.
The Labour Department stated that it is investigating a fatal work accident in Kwai Chung this afternoon in which a man died.
After receiving the report, the Labour Department immediately dispatched staff to the scene and is now investigating the cause of the accident.
The diver was taken to hospital by ambulance.
