The project:

Tenants:

a couple + 4 girls

Interior design:

Hila Alter In a

penthouse on the second line to the canopy of Bat Yam, a couple and their four daughters lived.

The father is an avid surfing enthusiast and the housewives are also in love with the sea and connected to it.

The last thing they wanted was to leave their beloved home, but the girls grew up and needed another room.

Just before the packaging, interior designer Hila Alter arrived with a creative solution.

Alter found a way to design another room for one of the girls in place of a niche in the unoccupied living space.

In this way it managed to expand the penthouse from five to six rooms, in a process that also included renovation, home styling and an entirely new interior design.

The need for an additional bedroom led the tenants to make a complete makeover in the apartment and a completely new interior design.

A niche in the living space that was not used properly made it possible to create another room, to give privacy to each of the teenage girls, who until then had shared one room.

By closing drywall and installing a zero-line door from the living room, the design gained a double advantage - another room for the girls, as well as a defined living room and area, where you can sit in front of a new TV wall covered with impressive wallpaper, instead of an improvised TV on a mobile stand. .

In addition, moves, additions and adjustments of power points and lighting were made according to plan, unique flooring was installed in all rooms, the walls were upgraded with special decorative painting, custom wallpaper was pasted, modern-looking curtains were hung, and luxury furniture was purchased.

The girls of the family, from the youngest to the oldest, took an active and significant part in the process of choosing the items, colors and shades.

The adolescent twins (13) who were full partners in making the decisions, chose for their rooms the shades, items and style they liked, and thus each room accurately expresses the inner world of each, through planning and design precisely tailored to their inclinations and needs.

The little daughter (5) also knew exactly what she wanted, and asked for a room in bright orange shades.

A bold and unconventional choice that dictated the chosen design items, out of a challenge to create a calm and pleasant space that would somewhat calm the orange, stormy and dominant color.

The 11-year-old received the newest and most "equal" room, which includes an exit to the balcony facing the sea, designed through the closure of the unused niche in the central space.

The main "loser" from the planning was the family's favorite parrot, who had to give up the location of his large cage that was previously within the same niche that stretched over 10 meters.

Since the entrance to the new room is only possible from the living room, the ambition was to create an imperceptible entrance.

For this purpose, a door was designed in a zero line without a jamb, which when closed becomes part of the TV wall covered with wallpaper, so that to the observer, the door is almost invisible, except for the handle.

In the living room, all the lighting fixtures were replaced, including the plaster recessed lighting, ceiling-mounted and spotlights, and new lighting fixtures for the kitchen were purchased.

The metal legs of the bar stools in the kitchen were painted black, and in general many of the existing items were upgraded with the help of renovation and painting that completely changed their appearance.

The entire apartment is equipped with custom curtains, and each room is repainted in different shades and customized according to the girls' choice.

The penthouse is characterized by modern design language, and the owner of the apartment asked not to incorporate wooden items.

In their place, luxury metal furniture in custom gray-white-black colors were incorporated.

Hence one of the main challenges in the project - to create an intimate and warm atmosphere without the use of wooden elements.

To do this, the designer used real vegetation, flowers and pots placed in all corners of the house.

The homely and relaxed atmosphere was also strengthened with the help of a powerful colorful picture above the living room sofa, and the similar rattan (straw) that corresponded well with the green and soothing vegetation.

The textile items also provide great warmth and match the apartment's colorful color palette.
