Mexico has reported 10,794 new cases of covid-19 this Tuesday, a record number of infections, as reported by the director of Epidemiology, José Luis Alomía, in the daily report on the pandemic.

In total, they add 1,060,152 positives.

Health authorities have also confirmed 813 deaths.

Less than a week ago, the country exceeded the barrier of 100,000 deaths.

The figures for this Tuesday increase to 102,739 the victims that the virus has claimed.

This is the highest increase in cases since October 5, when health authorities accounted for 28,115 new infections, although at that time they argued that it was a new methodology that included lagged infections.

Beyond that increase, it is the first time that Mexico has reported more than 10,000 cases in one day, surpassing the previous record of 9,556 on August 1.

Tuesdays are usually the days when more cases are registered due to the late count of positives identified over the weekend.

The daily reports, it must be remembered, are not necessarily victims and infections registered in the last 24 hours.

Sometimes they can reflect cases that occurred weeks or months ago that have been included until now due to the lag in the registration of the local systems of the States.

The Director of Epidemiology has insisted once again that the curve of estimated cases has drawn a flat, "plateau" path, for five weeks and has argued that only 49,613 cases are active, that is, 4%.

"It will logically depend on the transmission in the 32 entities that this plateau behavior continues or, in due course, we can begin to see a decrease or increase," he said.

Some states, however, have again entered maximum risk phases.

For example, Chihuahua and Durango, which are on a red light, according to the latest epidemiological map presented.

Mexico City is on the verge of that, according to the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, who reported a "change in trend" in the number of hospitalizations and imposed more restrictive measures in the capital to stop the chain of infections.

Alomía has also pointed out an increase in the occupancy of covid beds in recent weeks "influenced by these entities that are at higher risks."

But the "majority" of States, said the director of Epidemiology, maintain "a stability or a decrease" in hospitalizations.

The occupation of the beds, in the whole country, is 37%;

beds with fans are 31% occupied.

Covid-19 is heading to be the second leading cause of death in Mexico as it approaches diabetes, which last year left more than 104,000 deaths, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Mexico is the ninth country in the world in deaths per million inhabitants.

Alomía, however, reported a 5% decrease in the weekly death trend on Tuesday.

"From a plateau behavior of practically three weeks, we are again seeing this decrease," he asserted.

In the daily technical report, Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Health Promotion and Prevention, has reiterated that the Mexican Government is already preparing a vaccination plan that could begin in December after the announcements of effectiveness of the American Pfizer and the British AstraZeneca .
