This Tuesday at 8 p.m., when he addressed the French again, Emmanuel Macron did not announce the end of confinement, but a relaxation of the conditions of restrictions in several levels.

If the so-called non-essential shops will see the light again from November 28, other establishments will not be able to reopen immediately.

The “losers” of this “light” confinement, apart from bars and restaurants, will be cultural places.

Cinemas and theaters, museums and other places closed to the general public should not resume service until December 15, at a minimum, and this within the framework of a "strict health" protocol.

Note that from this date, confinement will be replaced by a national curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

A schedule that will not favor theaters and cinemas, once again.

"Art is essential to the democratic balance of a nation"

Operators of cinemas, theaters and cultural associations demanded a reopening in December on Friday.

They also want to be able to welcome the public at night, despite the future curfew.

Discussions are underway with the Ministry of Culture, in particular on the implementation of a new health protocol.

In a column published in Télérama on Tuesday, more than 350 directors of cultural places also asked for the reopening of theaters, at a time when the confinement will gradually ease.

They say they are ready to revive cultural places while respecting barrier gestures, because "art is essential to the democratic balance of a nation".
