The Buenos Aires Minister of Education, Soledad Acuña, defended herself this Tuesday after the controversy over her statements about teachers and the publication of a note in the newspaper
Página / 12
that relates her to the Nazi hierarch Erich Priebke.
"Nothing and no one is going to take my focus away. For four months now, with my team we have been working 12 hours a day or more so that the children go back to school. We are going to continue working with that priority. I speak with my actions and my work , which is a lot, and with a strong commitment to education.
I don't have to explain who I am or what values I have,
"stated Acuña.
Asked at a press conference about the "malaise" of some educational sectors for their statements about teachers who "choose the military instead of teaching," the Macrista official said she was "convinced that most teachers see school as a place where you have to teach kids to think and not tell them what to think. "
"But we also know that there is a group, which is not the majority,
that understands the place as a space for militancy
. And we are going to work so that this is not the case," he explained.
And he added, regarding the interview of the controversy: "I already told each of the teachers through a letter the meaning, the form and the proportions of what I spoke in that conversation. I already explained it and I continue to maintain my commitment to education as a tool for transformation ".
