In a conciliatory speech ahead of Thanksgiving, the president-elect sought to differentiate himself from Trump and unite the ranks ahead of the upcoming winter.

US President-elect Joe Biden delivered a speech to the nation tonight (Thursday) on Thanksgiving and asked the public to be patient in the fight against the Corona virus.
In a speech delivered from Wilmington, Delaware, Biden looked directly at the camera and prepared the public for dealing with a long and difficult winter.
"Looking back on history, it can be seen that the soul of our nation was forged precisely in the most difficult circumstances," he said.
In an attempt to differentiate himself from the outgoing president, Donald Trump, Biden urged the American public to unite in the fight against the virus.
"I know the country is tired of the struggle," Biden said.
"We must remember that we are at war with the virus, not with each other, not against each other."

In his speech, Biden asked the American public to protect themselves from the corona, which has so far claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans, and to be careful about wearing face masks and keeping their distance.
"These actions that we are asking people to take are not political statements," he noted.
"They are based on science, real science."
As the number of newborns skyrocketed across the United States, Biden tried to convey optimism.
"America will not lose this war. Do not let yourself succumb to fatigue," he called on the public.
While President Trump continues his attempts to prove without factual basis that there have been forgeries in the presidential election, so far without success, Biden has sought to praise the American public for going out to vote en masse precisely during this difficult time.
"Our democracy has been tested this year," he said.
"In America we have full and free elections. And then we also respect the results."
On Thanksgiving, starting today, Biden said he hopes the American people will exercise caution and adhere to the guidelines.
The president-elect also linked himself to the holiday, mentioning in his speech the difficulty involved in the loss of his son, Bo Biden, who passed away in 2015.
"I remember the first Thanksgiving, the empty chair, the silence," he described.
"It's very hard when you care. It's very hard to be thankful for what's there. It's hard to think about what's to come. It's hard to hope for the best. I understand."
